Žambylo sritis (kaz. Жамбыл облысы) – sritis pietryčių Kazachijoje. Sudaryta 1939 m. spalio 14 d. Administracinis centras – Tarazas. Vakaruose ribojasi su Pietų Kazachstano sritimi, šiaurėje su Karagandos sritimi, rytuose – Almatos sritimi, pietuose su Kirgizija ir beveik su netoli esančiu Uzbekistanu.

Nuo srities įkūrimo 1939 m. iki 1992 m. Žambylo sritis vadinosi Džambulo sritimi (nuo miesto pavadinimo). 1997 m. Žambylą pervadinus į Tarazą, sritis išlaikė senąjį pavadinimą.

Geografija

Žambylo srities šiaurėje yra Betpak Dalos molio dykuma, centre – Mujunkumo smėlio dykuma, pietvakariuose – Karatau kalnagūbris (iki 1660 m aukščio), rytuose Želtau kalnai (iki 974 m), pietryčiuose – Aitau kalnai (iki 2405 m), pietuose – Kirgizijos kalnagūbrio šiauriniai šlaitai (iki 4000 m).

Klimatas ryškiai žemyninis vidutinių platumų. Sausio vidutinė temperatūra lygumose nuo -10 iki -14, liepos 25-27. Kritulių per metus lygumose 100–200 mm, kalnuose 500–900 mm.

Upių mažai. Didžiausios – Ču, Talasas, Asa. Ežerai: Bijlikolis, Akolis, Aščikolis, Balchašo pietvakarinė dalis.

Priekalniuose – pilkžemių stepės, 1500–2000 m juostoje – kaštoninių dirvožemių stepės ir retmiškiai.[2]

Gyventojai

1976 m. duomenimis, miestų gyventojų buvo 45 %. 2009 m. duomenimis, miestų gyventojų yra 33,5 % (335 100).

Greitkelis M 39

Svarbios pramonės šakos apima akmens fosfato kasybą (aplink Karatau). Šu upės slėnis yra vienas svarbiausių Kazachijos drėkinamosios žemdirbystės regionų. Geležinkelio transporto pagrindas srityje, pagrįstas 2 linijomis: pietvakarine Turkestano-Sibiro geležinkelis linija, einančia per Tarazą, Šu, Almatos kryptimi ir Transkazachstano linija, einančia nuo Šu, Almatos kryptimi. Greitkelis M 39 (dalis E40) eina pro Taškentą, Šymkentą (gretimos Pietų Kazachstano srities sostinė), Tarazą, Biškeką, tada grįžta į Žambylo provicniją (ties Kordajumi) ir rytų kryptimi eina į sostinę Almatą.
