Frons occidentalis abbatiae Westmonasteriensis

Abbatia Westmonasteriensis[1] (Anglice Westminster Abbey), sollemniter ecclesia collegiata Sancti Petri Westmonasteriensis[2] appellata, est magna ecclesia operis francigeni vel gothici quae Westmonasterii in urbe stat, a Palatio Westmonasteriensi ad occidentem versus, inter intima Londinii suburbia. Hic reges Angliae, dein Britanniae, coronati et sepulti sunt. Monasterium Benedictinum anno 960 conditum est, sed aedificium praesens saeculo XIII constructum est. Fanum sancti Edwardi Confessoris, regis Anglorum anno 1066 mortui, ibi frequentabatur. Abbatia ipsa anno 1539 dissoluta, ab anno 1540 ad 1556 ecclesia fuit cathedralis, deinde ab anno 1560 ecclesia collegiata et "regia peculiaris", nam ipsi monarchae subiecta est.

Restitutionem ecclesiae Iacobus Wyatt anno 1803, rursus in sacello Nostrae Dominae ab 1808 usque in 1813 curavit. Restitutiones plures ab anno 1827 Eduardus Blore, ab 1849 Georgius Gilbertus Scott, ab 1879 Ioannes Loughborough Pearson direxerunt, atque ab 1897 Ioannes Thomas Micklethwaite.[3] Huius successor Gulielmus Ricardus Lethaby, qui ab anno 1906 mensor abbatiae meruit, de restructionibus saeculo XIX factis severe animadvertit.[4]
