《Music from Big Pink》는 캐나다와 미국의 록 밴드 더 밴드의 데뷔 스튜디오 음반이다.[1] 1968년에 발매된 이 음반은 컨트리, 록, 포크, 클래식, 리듬 앤 블루스, 블루스, 솔의 독특한 조합을 사용한다. 이 음악은 부분적으로 뉴욕주 웨스트사우거티스에 있는 릭 단코, 리처드 마누엘, 가스 허드슨이 함께 쓰는 집인 "빅 핑크"로 작곡되었다. 이 음반은 1968년 뉴욕과 로스앤젤레스의 스튜디오에서 녹음되었고[2], 1966년 그의 투어(호크스)에서 밥 딜런의 후원과 1975년 《The Basement Tapes》로 공식 발매된 뉴욕 북부의 녹음 자료에서 함께 보낸 시간을 따랐다. 커버 아트는 딜런이 그린 그림이다.

배경 및 빅 핑크

빅 핑크 (2006년)

녹음

프로듀서 존 사이먼을 만난 후, 밴드는 1968년 초 52번가에 있는 7997번가 7층에 있는 A&R 스튜디오에서 그들의 데뷔 음반을 녹음하기 시작했다. 밴드는 두 번의 세션에서 〈Tears of Rage〉, 〈Chest Fever〉, 〈We Can Talk〉, 〈This Wheel's on Fire〉, 〈The Weight〉를 녹음했다. 로비 로버트슨은 사이먼이 그들에게 어떻게 소리가 나기를 원하느냐고 물었을 때, 그들은 "지하실에서처럼"이라고 대답했다고 말했다.[5]

커버 아트

1968년 〈The Weight〉는 미국 빌보드 핫 100 싱글 차트에서 63위로 정점을 찍었다. 이 노래는 캐나다에서는 35위, 영국에서는 21위를 정점으로 다른 곳에서는 더 큰 히트를 쳤다. 이 음반은 1968년 빌보드 200 차트에서 30위로 정점을 찍은 후 2000년 톱 인터넷 음반 차트에서 8위로 재차트되었다. 〈The Weight〉는 1969년 8월 17일 우드스톡 페스티벌에서 밴드가 이 곡을 공연한 것과 부분적으로 영화 《이지 라이더》에 포함시켰기 때문에 폭넓은 인기를 얻었지만, 라이선스 문제로 인해 사운드트랙에서 제외되었다. 대신 밴드 스미스의 커버 버전이 사운드트랙 음반에 포함되었다.
