신암동(新岩洞)은 대한민국 대구광역시 동구의 법정동이다. 행정동(신암1동·신암2동·신암3동·신암4동·신암5동)의 통칭이기도 하다.

대구 최대의 철도 관문인 경부선 동대구역이 신암4동에 있다.[1] 신암2동에는 한국장학재단 본부가 있다.

유래

발원은 예부터 "한골"이라는 자연부락으로 불렸는데, "한골"이라는 것은 골이 깊은 계곡 대곡리라 해서 그 명칭이 한골이라고 불리고 있다. 새로 생긴 강 새내, 즉 신천이 흐르게 되었는데 그 아래 바위가 많은 곳이라 하여 신암동으로 부른다. 처음에는 동산새태, 새태마을(혹은 새터마실), 신기동이라 했다. 새태마실이라 부른 것은 그 아래쪽에 많은 마을이 들어서게 됨으로 하여 이를 새로 생긴 마을이란 뜻으로 부르게 되었다.
