エミール・マール、1928年

エミール・マール（Emile Mâle, 1862年6月2日 - 1954年10月6日）は、フランスの美術史家。アリエ県コマントリー生まれ。1906年から1912年までソルボンヌ大学で教鞭を執った。ラテン語が堪能で古文書史料研究を能くし、中世欧州美術を研究する上で今日でも重要な研究を残している。

業績

  1. 依然揺籃期にあった美術史学を、国際的な関心の対象となる学問領域として確立した。
  2. 著書を通じ、後進の美術研究者に中世フランス美術の図像学的説明を専攻する契機を与えた。
  3. バロック期ヨーロッパの図像学マニュアルであるチェーザレ・リーパ著『イコノロギア』（1593年）を1920年代後半に「再発見」した[1]。
