Roger Vercel

Roger Vercel nel 1934

Roger Vercel, all'anagrafe Roger Cretin (Le Mans, 8 gennaio 1894 – Dinan, 26 febbraio 1957), è stato uno scrittore francese.

Biografia

L'inizio della prima guerra mondiale lo interruppe a studiare lettere, e perse la vista. A causa di una carenza di ufficiali dell'esercito, tornò a Saint-Cyr.

Tornò a Dinan, dove nel 1921 fu nominato professore presso la Facolta di Lettere. Successivamente conseguì il dottorato in lettere nel 1927, con una tesi dal titolo: The images in the work of Corneille. L'Académie française gli assegnò il premio Saintour per la storia letteraria.

I suoi ricordi di guerra lo portarono a scrivere i libri: Our Father Trajan, Captain Conan, Lena, ma il tema marittimo lo ispirò di più.

Vinse il Premio Femina nel 1932 e il Premio Goncourt nel 1934 per Capitain Conan.
