NGC 3307 è una galassia lenticolare situata nella costellazione dell'Idra, a una distanza di circa 198 milioni di anni luce dalla nostra Via Lattea.[1]

Scoperta

La galassia è stata scoperta il 22 marzo 1836 dall'astronomo britannico John Herschel.[1]

Descrizione

Gruppo di NGC 3311

NGC 3307 fa parte del Gruppo di NGC 3311 che comprende almeno 19 galassie, tra cui IC 2586, NGC 3308, NGC 3311 e NGC 3315.[4]

NGC 3307 e tutte le galassie del Gruppo di NGC 3311 fanno parte dell'Ammasso dell'Idra (Abell 1060),[5] che è l'ammasso dominante del Superammasso dell'Idra-Centauro.[6]
