NGC 2923 è una lontana galassia a spirale intermedia[1] di tipo compatto,[3] situata nella costellazione del Leone, a una distanza di circa 409 milioni di anni luce dalla nostra Via Lattea.[1]
Scoperta
La galassia è stata scoperta il 1 aprile 1864 dall'astronomo tedesco Albert Marth.[1]
Supernova
Il 15 gennaio 2005, all'interno di NGC 2923 è stata scoperta la supernova SN 2005K da O. Trondal e M. Schwartz degli Osservatori Tenagra.[5] La supernova è stata classificata di tipo II.[6]
