Trama

Il grande amore di due giovani è ostacolato quando lui finisce in prigione per 12 anni.

Produzione

Sviluppo

Il film è stato annunciato da Gilles Lellouche per la prima volta nel 2013.[1] Era stato l'attore Benoît Poelvoorde a fargli conoscere il romanzo e suggerirgli di trarne un film.[2] Lellouche aveva quindi cominciato a scrivere una sceneggiatura assieme a lui, ma il tentativo non ha dato i frutti sperati.[2] Lellouche ha resuscitato il progetto nel 2019, coinvolgendo Audrey Diwan e Ahmed Hamidi nella stesura della sceneggiatura.[2]

Il film ha goduto di un budget di 35 milioni di euro,[3][4] diventando il maggior investimento di sempre per StudioCanal in Francia.[5]

Lellouche l'ha definita come "una commedia romantica ultraviolenta"[1] e un misto tra Scorsese, Tarantino e West Side Story.[6]

Riprese

Le riprese sono cominciate il 9 maggio 2023.[7] Sono durate 88 giorni durante 18 settimane.[5][6] Si sono concluse il 15 settembre 2023.[8][9] Si sono svolte in varie località della Francia, come Villeneuve-d'Ascq,[10] Dunkerque, Lilla, Douai, Valenciennes, Cambrai, Avesnes-sur-Helpe, Calais, Saint-Omer, Béthune, Lens, Arras, Boulogne-sur-Mer e Montreuil-sur-Mer,[11] oltre che all'Institut Saint-Henri Comines a Comines-Warneton, in Belgio.[12]

Colonna sonora

La colonna sonora è stata composta da Jon Brion.

Contiene brani di artisti del periodo nel quale il film è ambientato, dagli anni settanta agli anni novanta, tra cui i Cure, New Order, Madonna, Nas e Jay-Z.[5]

Distribuzione

Il film è stato presentato in anteprima il 23 maggio 2024 al 77º Festival di Cannes.[13]

Sarà distribuito nelle sale cinematografiche francesi da StudioCanal a partire dal 16 ottobre 2024.

Accoglienza

Critica

Simone Emiliani su Sentieri Selvaggi dà al film 3,5 stelle su 5 e definisce il film "un bombardamento di colori, suoni, parole, immagini, sull’orlo di una crisi di nervi che però ha l’impetuosa generosità di un cinema non si vorrebbe fermare più"[14]
