José María Romero Poyón, meglio noto come José Mari (Siviglia, 10 dicembre 1978), è un ex calciatore spagnolo, di ruolo attaccante.

Caratteristiche tecniche

Inizialmente seconda punta, fu poi utilizzato da Arrigo Sacchi come centravanti;[1] nonostante la velocità e le doti tecniche, la sua media realizzativa fu inferiore alle aspettative.[1]

Carriera

Club

Cresciuto nella seconda squadra del Siviglia, debuttò tra i professionisti poco più che maggiorenne.[1] La consacrazione avvenne poi nell'Atlético Madrid, dove si trasferì in seguito alla retrocessione degli andalusi;[1] durante la gestione di Arrigo Sacchi fu lanciato come prima punta, distinguendosi per le capacità di finalizzazione.[1][2] Il positivo comportamento nel campionato iberico gli valse, nel dicembre 1999, la chiamata del Milan.[3] Complice anche lo scarso utilizzo da titolare,[4] l'esperienza rossonera non fu soddisfacente;[1][2] rientrato a Madrid, tornò invece a segnare con regolarità.[5]

Dopo il positivo connubio col Villarreal,[6] ormai prossimo ai trent'anni firmò con il Betis.[7] Difese poi i colori di Gimnàstic de Tarragona e Xerez, ritirandosi nel 2013.[8]

Nazionale

Vincitore dell'argento olimpico a Sydney 2000[9], conta 4 presenze e una rete con la nazionale maggiore.[10]
