Jake Roxander

Jake Roxander (Medford, 22 marzo 2002) è un ballerino statunitense, primo ballerino dell'American Ballet Theatre dal 2026.

Biografia

Nato nell'Oregon, Jake Roxander cominciò a studiare danza nella scuola dei geniteri. Partecipò al Youth America Grand Prix annualmente tra il 2016 e il 2019, vincendo il Youth Grand Prix Award alle semifinali nel 2016 e nel 2017 e il Grand Prix Award alle semifinali del 2018 e del 2019.[1] Nel 2019 fu scritturato dalla compagnia secondaria del Philadelphia Ballet, mentre nel settembre 2020 fu scritturato dall'ABT Studio Company. Dopo quattro mesi di apprendistato, nel settembre 2022 fu scritturato nel corps de ballet dell'American Ballet Theatre, di cui divenne solista nel marzo 2024.

Prima ancora della nomina a solista, ottenne grandi apprezzamenti per la sua interpretazione come Puck in The Dream di Frederick Ashton,[2] tanto da essere segnalato dal New York Times nella sua lista di artisti da tenere d'occhio nel 2023.[3] Nei suoi primi quattro anni con l'ABT ha danzato anche come Aminta in Sylvia (Ashton), Florizel in The Winter's Tale (Wheeldon), Juan Alejandrez in Like Water for Chocolate (Wheeldon), Lenskij in Onegin (Cranko), Mercuzio in Romeo e Giulietta (MacMillan), Evans in Woolf Works (McGregor), nonché il Principe e l'eponimo protagonista ne Lo schiaccianoci (Ratmanskij). Nello stesso periodo, inoltre, ha danzato in ruoli di rilievo in balletti di Gemma Bond (La Boutique), Harald Lander (Études), Twyla Tharp (In the Upper Room, Sextet, Push Comes to Shove)[4] e Agnes de Mille (Rodeo).

Susan Jaffe lo ha nominato primo ballerino della compagnia nel giugno 2026, al termine di una rappresentazione del Don Chisciotte al Metropolitan Opera House in cui Roxander aveva danzato come Basilio.[1]
