Alpafjöll eða Alparnir (nefnd Mundíufjöll til forna eða Fjall) eru fjallgarður sem teygir sig um 1200 kílómetra frá Austurríki og Slóveníu í austri um Ítalíu, Sviss, Liechtenstein og Þýskaland til Frakklands í vestri.

Hæsta fjall Alpanna er Hvítfjall (f. Mont Blanc, í. Monte Bianco), 4809 m hátt, á landamærum Frakklands og Ítalíu. Alparnir eru fellingafjöll, það er fjöll sem orðið hafa til þegar tveir (eða fleiri) jarðflekar rákust saman.

Gróður og dýralíf

Laufskógar ná upp í 1200-1500 metra hæð. Þar fyrir ofan má finna tré eins og fjallafuru, lindifuru og evrópulerki sem vaxa hátt í 2000-2400 meta hæð. Ofan þeirrar hæðar má finna fjallatúndru. Jöklasóley er meðal blómplantna sem finnast í háfjöllunum, í allt að 4000 metra hæð.

Alpasteingeit er það spendýr sem lifir hæst uppi. Múrmeldýr lifa ofan trjálínu. Í Austur-Ölpunum lifa enn brúnbirnir. Gullörn og gammar eru stærstu fuglategundirnar.
