Viscount I Frederick John Napier Thesiger Chelmsford

Viscount I Frederick John Napier Thesiger Chelmsford adalah seorang administrator dan negarawan koloni Inggris yang yang lahir pada tanggal 12 Agustus 1868 di London, Inggris dan meninggal pada tanggal 1 April 1933 di tempat yang sama.^[1]^[2] Chelmsford pernah menjabat sebagai gubernur kota Queensland dan New South Wales untuk beberapa tahun sebelum menjadi seorang Viceroy untuk India.^[1]^[2] Dia berperan dalam reformasi institusi pemerintahan India dengan menambah perwakilan orang-orang India untuk masuk ke dalam pemerintahan namun juga memprovokasi perlawanan terhadap para kaum nasionalis.^[1]^[2] Dia adalah putra sulung dari Baron Chelmsford dan ibunya adalah cucu dari seorang Mayor Jendral dari tentara Bombay. Chelmsford menempuh pendidikan di Magdalen College, Oxford University.^[1]^[2] Kemudian dia melayani baik di London School Board dan Kounsil Negara. Pada tahun 1905 dia meneruskan ayahnya sebagai Baron Chelmsford dan kemudian terpilih menjadi gubernur dari negara bagian Queensland.^[1]^[2] Pada tahun 1909 ia menjadi Gubernur New South dan menjadi aktif dan populer walaupun sering menghadapi konflik politik dan pekerjaan yang banyak.^[1]^[2] Ketika dia pensiun pada tahun 1921, Chelmford mendapatkan gelar Viscount dan pada tahun 1924 menjadi first lord of the Admiralty dalam pemerintahan Ramsay Macdonald.^[1]^[2]
