Puncak Cuaca Holosen

Puncak Cuaca Holosen (Holocene Climate Optimum; HCO) adalah sebuah periode hangat antara kira-kira 9.000 hingga 5.000 tahun tahun yang lalu, dengan puncak suhu maksimal pada sekitar 8000 SS. Fenomena ini juga dikenal dengan banyak nama lain, seperti Altithermal, Climatic Optimum, Holocene Megathermal, Holocene Optimum, Holocene Thermal Maximum, Hypsithermal, dan Mid-Holocene Warm Period.

Periode hangat ini diikuti oleh penurunan bertahap sampai sekitar dua ribu tahun yang lalu.

Dampak secara global

Variasi temperatur pada masa Holosen menurut beberapa rekonstruksi. Masa sekarang terletak di paling kanan, tapi peningkatan suhu terkini hanya dapat dilihat di inset.

Puncak cuaca Holosen meningkatkan suhu bumi hingga 4 °C di Kutub Utara (menurut satu studi, suhu pada musim dingin meningkat dari 3 hingga 9 °C dan pada musim panas dari 2 hingga 6 °C di Siberia bagian tengah).[1] Eropa Barat Laut juga mengalami penghangatan, sementara wilayah Eropa Selatan malah mendingin.[2] Semakin dekat dengan khatulistiwa, suhu rata-rata sepertinya menurun. Terumbu karang tropis umumnya menunjukkan peningkatan temperatur yang lebih kecil 1 °C; sebagai perbandingan, suhu samudra tropis di area Karang Penghalang Besar sekitar 5350 SS naik 1 °C lebih tinggi dan kaya akan 18O per 0.5 per mil dibandingkan dengan air laut modern.[3]
