Osedax adalah genus cacing di laut dalam yang dikenal dengan sebutan "cacing zombie" atau "cacing pemakan tulang". Osedax dalam bahasa Latin berarti "pemakan tulang". Nama ini mengacu kepada fakta bahwa cacing ini masuk ke dalam sisa tulang belulang paus untuk mencapai lipid di dalamnya untuk bertahan hidup. Untuk dapat masuk ke dalam tulang, mereka mengeluarkan asam.[2] Mereka tidak memiliki perut dan mulut, sehingga mereka memiliki hubungan simbiosis dengan bakteri dari ordo Oceanospirillales yang membantu mereka mencerna protein dan lipid pada tulang paus dengan melepaskan nutrien yang dapat diserap oleh cacing ini. Osedax juga memiliki ujung yang seperti rangkaian dedaunan yang berfungsi sebagai insang.

Jenis kelamin mereka ditentukan oleh lingkungan mereka. Jika larva cacing ini menempel di tulang paus, maka cacing ini akan menjadi cacing betina, sementara larva yang mendarat di tubuh cacing betina yang sudah matang secara seksual akan menjadi cacing jantan yang ukuran tubuhnya sangat kecil. Cacing jantan ini akan tergabung dengan jaringan cacing betina, dan di setiap tubuh cacing betina terdapat hingga 100 cacing jantan. Cacing-cacing jantan ini akan membuahi si cacing betina. Betina dapat menghasilkan ratusan telur yang telah difertilisasi setiap harinya yang kemudian dilepas ke samudra untuk mencari tulang paus berikutnya.

Genus ini pertama kali ditemukan oleh ilmuwan dari Institut Penelitian Akuarium Teluk Monterey dengan menggunakan kapal selam ROV Tiburon pada Februari 2002. Cacing ini ditemukan di tulang bangkai paus abu-abu di kedalaman 2.893 m.
