Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (arti harfiah: "Mecklenburg-Pomerania Barat") adalah sebuah negara bagian Jerman yang terletak di timur laut.

Daerah ini memiliki wilayah seluas 23.170 km² tetapi jumlah penduduknya hanya 1,7 juta jiwa. Kota-kota yang besar adalah Rostock, Greifswald, Stralsund, Schwerin, Neubrandenburg, dan Güstrow. Semuanya memiliki populasi di bawah 200.000 jiwa.

Sejarah

Mecklenburg & Pomerania

Pomerania yang sejati (Pommern), dan memuat Szczecin (atau Stettin) serta tanah di sebelah timur sungai Oder (Hinterpommern, artinya Pomerania Belakang), sekarang merupakah wilayah Polandia. Pomerania Barat atau Pomerania Depan (Vorpommern) dikuasai oleh Swedia sebelum Perdamaian Westphalia pada tahun 1648 sebelum dicaplok Prusia pada 1720 dan 1815.

Mecklenburg, di sebelah barat Vorpommern, menjadi sebuah kadipaten pada 1348 tetapi kemudian dibagi antara abad ke-17 sampai 1934. Negara-negara Mecklenburg-Schwerin dan Mecklenburg-Strelitz menjadi kadipaten agung kedua-duanya pada tahun 1815, tetapi pemerintahan republik didirikan pada tahun 1918. Lalu keduanya digabung dengan Vorpommern antara tahun 1947–1952. Setelah itu dipecah-pecah lagi dan digabung lagi semenjak Persatuan Kembali Jerman pada 1990.
