Lobotidae adalah sebuah keluarga ikan bersirip kipas yang ditempatkan dalam ordo Spariformes dalam Fishes of the World edisi ke-5, tetapi klasifikasi ini dan taksa yang termasuk dalam keluarga ini tidak disetujui oleh semua pekerja.

Taksonomi

Lobotidae pertama kali diusulkan sebagai sebuah keluarga pada tahun 1861 oleh ahli biologi asal Amerika Serikat, Theodore Gill.[3] Fishes of the World edisi ke-5 mengklasifikasikan Lobotidae dalam ordo Spariformes, dan untuk sementara memasukkan genus Datnioides ke dalam famili ini.[1] Pekerja lain memasukkan genus Hapalogenys ke dalam Lobotidae.[4] Namun lebih banyak lagi pekerja yang menempatkan ketiga taksa ini dalam keluarga monotipe dalam ordo Lobotiformes dalam seri Eupercaria.[5]

Karakteristik

Lobotidae memiliki tulang palatina dan vomer yang ompong. Mereka memiliki sirip ekor membundar yang mirip dengan ikan siklid, dan lobus posterior yang memanjang pada sirip punggung belakang dan sirip dubur memberi kesan seolah-olah memiliki tiga ekor. Sirip punggung ditopang oleh total 12 duri dan 15 atau 16 jari lunak.[1] Ukuran maksimum ikan ini bervariasi mulai dari panjang standar 32 cm pada Datnioides campbelli hingga panjang total 110 cm pada kakap telessi (Lobotes surinamensis).[4] Ikan remaja menyamarkan diri dengan mengambang miring dan menyerupai daun-daun yang berguguran.[1]
