Benteng Santo Antônio de Gurupá, yang terletak di kota Gurupá yang sekarang, adalah benteng militer Portugis pada abad ke-17 dan ke-18, dan secara aktif diduduki oleh militer Brasil hingga tahun 1958.[1]

Benteng asli dibangun oleh Belanda antara tahun 1601 dan 1619, sebelum ditaklukkan oleh pasukan Portugal yang dipimpin oleh Pedro Teixeira dan Bento Maciel Parente pada tahun 1623, yang kemudian membangunnya kembali dengan nama Santo Antônio de Gurupá.[1]

Pada tahun 1958, kota ini dijaga oleh sebuah detasemen kecil dari Wilayah Militer ke-8 Angkatan Darat Brasil. Pada tahun 1963 ditempatkan di bawah kepercayaan pemerintah di bawah wewenang Kementerian Pertahanan (Brasil).[1][2]

Benteng ini menjalani proyek restorasi antara tahun 2014 dan 2018, bersamaan dengan proyek penggalian artefak arkeologi, dan diresmikan kembali pada tanggal 20 April 2018 dengan disimpan di dalam museum kecil, yang menampilkan hasil dari proyek penggalian tersebut. Pada bulan September 2020, selama Pandemi Covid-19, museum di dalam benteng dirusak. [3][4]
