Basidium

Basidium (jamak, basidia) adalah sporangium (struktur penghasil spora) mikroskopis yang ditemukan pada himenofor dari tubuh buah fungi Basidiomycota yang juga disebut miselium tersier, yang berkembang dari miselium sekunder. Miselium tersier adalah miselium sekunder yang sangat melingkar, suatu dikaryon. Kehadiran basidia adalah salah satu ciri utama dari Basidiomycota. Basidium biasanya mengandung empat spora seksual yang disebut basidiospora;[1] kadang-kadang jumlahnya mungkin dua atau bahkan delapan. Dalam basidium pada umumnya, masing-masing basidiospora tumbuh di ujung cabang atau tanduk sempit yang disebut sterigma (jamak sterigmata), dan secara paksa dikeluarkan ketika sudah matang.

Kata basidium secara harfiah berarti pedestal (alas) kecil, dinamai dari cara basidium menopang spora. Namun, beberapa ahli biologi berpendapat bahwa strukturnya lebih mirip sebuah gada. Basidium yang belum matang dikenal sebagai basidiole.
