Arthur Ashkin (2 September 1922 – 21 September 2020) adalah seorang ilmuwan dan peraih Nobel asal Amerika Serikat yang bekerja di Bell Laboratories dan Lucent Technologies. Ashkin dianggap oleh banyak orang sebagai bapak pinset optik,[1][2][3] di mana ia dianugerahi Penghargaan Nobel Fisika 2018 pada usia 96, menjadi Penerima Nobel tertua hingga 2019 ketika John B. Goodenough menerima Nobel pada usia 97 tahun. Ia tinggal di Rumson, New Jersey.[4]

Ashkin memulai penelitiannya pada manipulasi mikropartikel dengan sinar laser pada akhir 1960-an yang kemudian menghasilkan penemuan pinset optik pada tahun 1986. Ia juga memelopori proses perangkap optik yang akhirnya digunakan untuk memanipulasi atom, molekul, dan sel biologis. Fenomena kuncinya adalah tekanan radiasi cahaya; tekanan ini dapat dibedah menjadi gradien optik dan gaya hamburan.
