Anime Expo

Anime Expo, disingkat AX adalah pameran anime yang dilangsungkan setahun sekali selama 4 hari di California Selatan. Pameran biasanya berlangsung di akhir pekan sebelum dan sesudah tanggal 4 Juli, kecuali bila tanggal 4 Juli jatuh pada hari Rabu. Anime Expo diselenggarakan organisasi nirlaba Lembaga Promosi Animasi Jepang (Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation, disingkat SPJA). Organisasi yang sama juga pernah mengadakan pameran anime di New York (2002) dan Tokyo (2004).[1]

Pada tahun 2007, pameran ini dikunjungi sekitar 44 ribu pengunjung.[2] Anime Expo merupakan pameran anime dan manga terbesar di Amerika dalam jumlah pengunjung, kecuali pada tahun 2003 ketika dikalahkan oleh pameran Otakon.[3] Sebagian pengunjung datang ke pameran sambil ber-cosplay, dan mengikuti acara pesta kostum, dan berbagai kontes seperti: karaoke, video musik anime, dan "AX Idol". Pameran berlangsung selama 24 jam, berikut pesta disko di tengah malam, pemutaran video sepanjang malam, ruang permainan video, dan ruang karaoke yang terbuka sepanjang hari.

Anime Expo (AX) dimulai sebagai pertemuan penggemar anime dan manga di California Utara. Sebagian besar penyelenggara pernah menjadi panitia pameran anime Anime Con di San Jose, California pada 1991. Sejak tahun 1994, California Selatan dijadikan tempat penyelenggaraan Anime Expo.
