Albrecht I (1158 – 24 Juni 1195), disebut yang Bangga (bahasa Jerman: Albrecht der Stolze), merupakan seorang Markgraf Meißen dari tahun 1190 sampai kematiannya, ia berasal dari Wangsa Wettin.

Kehidupan

Albrecht adalah putra sulung Markgraf Otto yang Kaya (1156–1190) dan istrinya Hedwig dari Ballenstedt, putri Markgraf Albrecht sang Beruang dari Wangsa Ascania. Pada tahun 1186 di Ústí nad Labem ia menikahi putri Sophia, putri Adipati Bedřich dari Bohemia yang berasal dari Wangsa Přemyslid.

Ayahandanya tidak bermaksud membiarkan Albrecht menggantikannya di Meißen, dan teran-terangan lebih memilih adiknya Dietrich. Albrecht jengkel akan hal ini dan ia memulai perang melawan ayahanda dan saudaranya. Pada tahun 1188, ia bahkan memenjarakan ayahandanya. Di bawah perintah kaisar Hohenstaufen, Friedrich Barbarossa, ia harus membebaskannya namun pada tahun 1190 ia dapat memperoleh gelar markgraf atas kematian Otto.

Albrecht menemani putra Barbarossa Kaisar Heinrich VI dalam kampanyenya ke Sisilia; Namun dengan cepat ia meninggalkan pasukan kerajaan dan kembali ke Meißen ketika saudaranya mencoba untuk mendapatkan kembali markgrafschaft tersebut.[1][2] Dietrich dengan dukungan dari ayah mertuanya Landgraf Hermann I dari Thüringen, mengangkat senjata dan mengalahkan pasukan Albrecht di dalam sebuah perang di dekat Röblingen. Sang markgraf yang menyamar sebagai seorang rahib, nyaris lolos ke Leipzig dan dengan sia-sia berusaha mendapatkan dukungan dari Kaisar Heinrich yang marah.

Perang saudara itu berakhir dengan kematian mendadak Albrecht pada bulan Juni 1195, ia diduga telah diracuni, tanpa keturunan yang menggantikannya. Ia dimakamkan di biara Sistersien Altzella, yang dibangun oleh ayahandanya pada tahun 1162. Meißen, yang kaya akan tambangnya, disita oleh Kaisar Heinrich VI sebagai Status Imperii. Tidak sampai tahun 1198, Dietrich akhirnya dapat memiliki warisannya, setelah kematian Heinrich pada tahun 1197.[2]
