Pachylecythis, biljni rod iz porodice Lecythidaceae iz Srednje i Južne Amerike. Opisan je 2024.[1]. Pachylecythis je prihvaćen rod tropskih stabala u Lecythidaceae, izdvojen iz Lecythis kompleksa, s naglaskom na morfološke razlike poput debljih plodova.

Opis

Taksonomski kontekst, Rod je opisan relativno nedavno (20. stoljeće, točnije 1964.). Nastao je iz potrebe da se izdvoje određene vrste iz široko shvaćenog roda Lecythis. Kao i mnogi rodovi u Lecythidaceae, povezan je s kompleksom Eschweilera i Couratari. Za razliku od najnovijih rodova (Imbiriba, Guaiania), Pachylecythis je stariji segregat, ali i dalje dio iste šire taksonomske problematike (razbijanje velikih, umjetnih rodova). Rasprostranjenost. Tropska Južna Amerika, osobito Amazonska regija. stanište: vlažne tropske šume. Morfološke značajke, (ime sugerira ključnu osobinu) “Pachy-” = debeo → odnosi se na debele stijenke ploda. Drvenasti plodovi tipični za Lecythidaceae, sjemenke često relativno velike [2]
