Lecitis (lat. Lecythis), tipični biljni rod (pet vrsta) iz porodice Lecythidaceae iz Južne Amerike i Paname. Opisan je 1758.[1]. Veliki amazonski rod stabala s karakterističnim “posudastim” plodovima i kompleksnim cvjetovima, ključan za razumijevanje evolucije Lecythidaceae.
Opis
Tipičnih i najpoznatiji rod u porodici Lecythidaceae. Opći opis. Životni oblik: velika tropska stabla. Visina: često 20–40 m. Listovi: jednostavni, naizmjenični, kožasti. Cvjetovi vrlo složene građe, karakteristične za Lecythidaceae, imaju modificirane prašnike koji tvore tzv. androcijalni “poklopac” (hood), često su: entomofilni (oprašuju ih kukci, posebno pčele). Cvjetovi mogu biti upadljivi i mirisni. Plodovi veliki, drvenasti (lignificirani), često okruglasti s poklopcem (operculum), podsjećaju na “posudu s poklopcem”, zbog toga se rod često naziva “monkey pot” (majmunski lonac). Sjemenke relativno velike, kod nekih vrsta jestive. Šire ih: životinje (npr. glodavci, majmuni), gravitacija. Rasprostranjenost, tropska Južna Amerika, osobito: Amazonski bazen. Gvajanski štit.[2]
