תרופת בחירה היא התרופה המקובלת לשימוש ראשון במעלה לטיפול במחלה ספציפית. השיקולים המנחים להחלטה על תרופה זו נובעים מיעילותה - גבוהה ככל האפשר, עלותה - זולה ככל האפשר, תופעות הלוואי - מעטות ככל האפשר והסיכון לפתח סבילות לתרופה - נמוך ככל האפשר (שיקול זה משמעותי בעיקר באנטיביוטיקה).
