Bae Yong Joon (배용준, (lahir 29 Agustus 1972) adalah aktor Korea Selatan yang dikenal dengan peran-perannya dalam berbagai serial drama. Penggemar menyebutnya dengan singkatan BYJ. Penggemar di Jepang mengagungkannya sebagai dengan panggilan kehormatan Yon-sama (ヨン様, Tuan Yon).

Biografi

Lahir di Mapo-gu, Seoul, masa sekolah dilewatkannya di Taman Kanak-kanak Il-mun, Sekolah Dasar Myung-il, dan dilanjutkan ke SMP PaiChai dan SMA Hanyoung.[1]

Semasa kecil, Bae sangat menggemari Taekwondo dan cedera di bagian mata akibat tertendang, sehingga penglihatannya menjadi kurang bagus. Berdasarkan kondisi penglihatannya, Bae dibebaskan dari wajib militer.

Setelah lulus dari Jurusan FTM (Film, TV & Multimedia) di Fakultas Seni Universitas Sungkyunkwan, Bae memulai karier aktingnya dengan film PpilKu pada tahun 1994. Selanjutnya, ia membintangi serial drama Salut D'Amour dan Six Steps to Separation yang masing-masing ditayangkan pada akhir tahun 1994 dan 1995.

Nama Bae Yong Joon mencuat setelah menjadi pemeran pendukung dalam Sunny Place of the Young. Ia berperan sebagai pewaris perusahaan kosmetik dan teman baik dari Lee Jong Won yang memainkan peran utama. Sejak itu pula, penggemar mulai mengagung-agungkan Bae sebagai mahabintang. Peran Bae dalam serial drama First Love kembali mendapat pujian berbagai kalangan. Dalam drama tersebut, Bae memerankan pria bernama Chan-woo yang berhenti dari kuliahnya di sekolah hukum, dan bergabung dengan sebuah geng untuk membalas dendam keluarga.

Setelah tahun 1999, kesibukan kuliah sebagai mahasiswa sinematografi di Universitas Sung Kyun Kwan membuatnya harus istirahat dari dunia akting. Serial drama Hotelier (2001) menandai kembalinya Bae di dunia akting. Sejak itu pula, Bae memiliki model rambut agak panjang seperti potongan rambut yang dimilikinya sekarang. Pada bulan Maret 2005, Bae akhirnya memutuskan untuk berhenti kuliah.[2]

Perannya dalam serial drama Winter Sonata membuat Bae Yon Joon terkenal di berbagai negara lain di dunia. Di Jepang, serial Winter Sonata sukses besar dan sempat beberapa kali ditayangkan ulang, walaupun pada mulanya hanya diputar di saluran televisi NHK BS-2. Aktris Choi Ji-woo yang menjadi lawan mainnya juga menjadi terkenal di Jepang. Serial drama ini mengawali kepopuleran sinema dan drama televisi Korea di Jepang.
