קאי הארלד ליינינגר מונק (דנית: Kaj Harald Leininger Munk;‏ 13 בינואר 1898 – 4 בינואר 1944) היה מחזאי דני וכומר לותרני אשר נודע במעורבותו החברתית. נרצח על ידי הגרמנים במהלך כיבוש דנמרק במלחמת העולם השנייה. הוא מונצח כקדוש נוצרי בלוח השנה של הקדושים של הכנסייה הלותראנית. מחזהו הנודע ביותר Ordet עובד לקולנוע.

קורות חייו

קאי מונק נולד למשפחת פטרסן באי לולנד (Lolland) בדנמרק, ולאחר מות הוריו גדל אצל משפחת מונק. מ-1924 ועד מותו כיהן מונק ככומר בוודרסו (Vedersø) במערב יוטלנד,[1] מחזותיו הוצגו בעיקר בשנות ה-30 של המאה ה-20, למרות שרבים מהם נכתבו בעשור שלפני כן. רבות מיצירותיו עוסקות ב"דיון על הפילוסופיה על החיים" (דת – מרקסיזם – דרוויניזם), האופייני לחלק גדול מחיי התרבות בדנמרק בתקופתו.

במקרה אחד בתחילת שנות ה-30, ששב ורדף אותו שנים מאוחר יותר, הביע מונק הערצה להיטלר על כך שאיחד את הגרמנים, וייחל להופעתה של דמות דומה שתאחד את הדנים.[2] אף על פי כן, מונק הביע סלידה גלויה מהיטלר (ומוסוליני) בעקבות רדיפת יהודי גרמניה ומהלכיו של מוסוליני באתיופיה. ב-1938 פרסם העיתון הדני Jyllands-Posten בעמוד הראשי שלו מכתב גלוי שכתב מונק למוסוליני ובו מתח ביקורת על רדיפות היהודים.

מונק היה מתנגד חריף של הכיבוש הגרמני של דנמרק (1940–1945), זאת למרות התנגדותו התמידית לרעיון הדמוקרטי כשלעצמו והטפתו לרעיון של "דיקטטור נורדי", אשר יאחד את המדינות הנורדיות וישמור על הנייטרליות שלהן בעתות של משבר בינלאומי. מחזותיו  Han sidder ved Smeltediglen ("הוא יושב ליד כור ההיתוך") ו-Niels Ebbesen היו מתקפה ישירה על הנאציזם. האחרון מתאר את דמותו של נילס אבסן, אציל דני מימי הביניים שנחשב גיבור לאומי בדנמרק על כך שרצח את הרוזן גרהארד ה-3, כובש דנמרק. מחזה זה נתפש כאלגוריה לכיבוש הנאצי של דנמרק. למרות הפצרותיהם של חבריו, לא ירד מונק למחתרת והמשיך להטיף נגד הדנים אשר שיתפו פעולה עם הנאצים.

הגסטפו עצר את מונק בליל 4 בינואר 1944, חודש לאחר שהפר איסור של הגרמנים ונשא דרשה בקתדרלה הלאומית בקופנהגן. גופתו של מונק נמצאה למחרת בבוקר בתעלה לצד הכביש באזור הכפרי ליד סילקבורג ועליה פתק ובו נכתב "חזיר, בכל זאת פעלת למען גרמניה"[3] בהלווייתו של מונק השתתפו 4,000 דנים.

מחזותיו

במחזותיו השתמש מונק לעיתים קרובות בנושאים היסטוריים. הוא הושפע מוויליאם שייקספיר, Adam Oehlenschläger, הנריק איבסן וג'ורג' ברנרד שו.[4] כמחזאי, מונק נודע ב"דמויותיו החזקות", והוא שילב במחזותיו אנשים הנלחמים בחירוף נפש על האידיאלים שלהם (הטובים או הרעים). לדוגמה, במחזהו "En Idealist " (אידיאליסט) הגיבור הוא המלך הורדוס, שמאבקו לשמר את כוחו הוא המניע לכל מעשיו, עד אשר הוא מוכרע לבסוף ברגע של חולשה על ידי מבע של חסד כלפי ישו הילד.

מחזהו Ordet ("המילה") משנת 1925 נחשב לעיתים קרובות ליצירתו הטובה ביותר. זוהי התבוננות ייחודית (לפחות בעבור התיאטרון) בניסים, מנקודת מבטו של אדם שאינו מוכן להתכחש להם. משפחת חקלאים בדרגות שונות של אמונה מוצאת את עצמה משלימה עם שכניה באמצעות נס. הגרסה הקולנועית הראשונה של המחזה משנת 1943 נקראה The Word ובוימה על ידי גוסטב מולנדר. הגרסה הקולנועית משנת 1955 נקראה בשם הדני של המחזה Ordet ובוימה על ידי קארל תאודור דרייר. גרסה זו זכתה בפרסים רבים, ובכלל זה בפרס אריה הזהב בפסטיבל הסרטים הבינלאומי ה-16 של ונציה ובפרס גלובוס הזהב לשנת 1956 עבור הסרט הזר הטוב ביותר.[5]
