סַאנְטוֹ קְיוֹדֶן (ביפנית: 山東 京伝; נולד ב-13 בספטמבר 1761 – 27 באוקטובר 1816) היה משורר, סופר ואמן יפני, בן תקופת אדו. נחשב לאחד מאבות המאנגה.

ביוגרפיה

קיודן נולד בעיירה פוקאגאווה, כיום חלק מהעיר טוקיו. הוא נולד בשם אִיוואסֶה סאמוּרוּ (岩瀬 醒) למשפחה ממעמד בינוני.

לאחר שלמד אמנות יפנית אצל המאסטר קיטָאוֹ שיגֶמאסה החל ליצור ולהפיץ ספרים ורומנים בשם העט "סאנטו קיודן" (שהפך ברבות השנים לשמו) עם איוריו של מורהו.

הפופולריות שלו כסופר צמחה פלאים כאשר החל לפרסם ספרי קיביושי - ז'אנר בציור היפני שמהווה את המקור למאנגה המודרנית. במהלך תקופה זו הוא התחתן פעמיים עם שתי נשים שעבדו באזור של דרום טוקיו כיום. בשנת 1791 פרסם קיודן שלושה ספרים מאויירים שהיוו ביקורת גדולה על שלטונו של קוקאקו, קיסר יפן: "שיקאקה בונקו" (仕懸文庫), "נישיקי נו אורה" (錦之裏) ו"שוֹגי קינובורוי" (娼妓絹籭). בעקבות הפרסום הוא נעצר ונכלא למשך 50 יום[1].

במהלך סוף המאה ה-18 כתב קיודן באופן עצמאי מספר טקסטים בעלי חשיבות היסטורית כיום על אורח החיים, הנימוסים והמנהגים שנפוצו ביפן בתקופת אדו.

בשונה ממרבית משוררי הסיפורת שקדמו לו ביפן, אשר כתבו ללא ציפייה לקבל תשלום בעבור עבודתם, קיודן היה מהחלוצים בהפיכת התחביב למקצוע, ומסיפוריו התפרנס לכל שארית חייו.

קיודן נפטר ב-27 באוקטובר 1816 בגיל 56. הוא נטמן בטוקיו והונצח על ידי כמה מצבות בכמה בתי קברות שונים באזור[2]. בשנה שלאחר מותו הקים אחיו הצעיר קיוזאן אנדרטה לזכרו הנושאת את השם "קיקוזוקה" שממקומת במתחם מקדש סנסוג'י (אנ').

הנצחה

יצירות האמנות החזותיות של קיודן מוצגות כדרך קבע במספר מוזיאונים, בהם המוזיאון הבריטי[3] מוזיאון ברוקלין[4], מכון האמנות של שיקגו[5] מוזיאון המטרופוליטן לאמנות[6] מוזיאון פילדלפיה לאמנות[7], מוזיאון האמנות של מחוז לוס אנג'לס[8].
