מרגוט לי שטרלי (באנגלית: Margot Lee Shetterly; נולדה ב-1969) היא סופרת אמריקאית. ספרה הראשון, מאחורי המספרים, עובד לסרט בשם זה.[1]

ביוגרפיה

שטרלי, ילידת המפטון, וירג'יניה, היא בתם של מדען מחקר במרכז המחקר לנגלי של נאס"א,[2][3] ושל פרופסורית לאנגלית באוניברסיטת המפטון (אנ')‏.[4] היא למדה בתיכון פביוס והיא בוגרת בית הספר למסחר באוניברסיטת וירג'יניה. אחרי הקולג' עברה לניו יורק ועבדה מספר שנים בבנקאות השקעות, בסחר חוץ בג'יי. פי. מורגן, ולאחר מכן במריל לינץ'. היא עשתה הסבה לתעשיית המדיה ועבדה על מגוון רחב של מיזמים כולל אתר במימון HBO‏, Volume.com. ב-2005 היא ובעלה, הסופר ארן שטרלי, עברו למקסיקו כדי לייסד מגזין באנגלית בשם "בתוך מקסיקו",[5] עבור גולים, שפעל עד שנת 2009. מ-2010 עד 2013 עבדו השניים בעריכת תוכן שיווקי ובייעוץ לתעשיית התיירות המקסיקנית.

שטרלי החלה במחקר ובכתיבת מאחורי המספרים ב-2010. ב-2014, הזכויות על הספר נמכרו לוויליאם מורו, להוצאת הארפר-קולינס, ונחתם הסכם הפקה פוטנציאלי לסרט באותו השם.[6][7] בסרט שיחקו טראג'י פ. הנסון, אוקטביה ספנסר, ג'אנל מונה וקווין קוסטנר.

ב-2013 ייסדה שטרלי את פרויקט המחשב האנושי, ארגון שמטרתו לארכב את עבודתן של כל הנשים שעבדו בתור מחשבות ומתמטיקאיות בימים הראשונים של הוועדה הלאומית המייעצת לאווירונאוטיקה (NACA) ונאס"א.[8]

קבלה

שטרלי זכתה בפרס קרן סלואן לשנת 2014[11] על ספרה "מאחורי המספרים", ובמענקים מקרן וירג'יניה למדעי הרוח על יצירתה, על פרויקט המחשב האנושי.[12]

ב-2017 זכתה בפרס אניספילד-וולף על ספרה "מאחורי המספרים".
