ליאת סגל (נולדה ב-9 בינואר 1979) היא אמנית ניו מדיה ישראלית, המשלבת אמנות וטכנולוגיה. לשעבר עובדת היי-טק.

ביוגרפיה

סגל נולדה לחיים, מהנדס תעשייה וניהול, יליד ישראל; וליפה סגל, רוקחת, ילידת רומניה. השניים יזמים בתחום התרופות. סגל היא השנייה מבין שלושה האחים. הבכור, ד"ר דדי סגל, הוא יזם בתחום התרופות והצעיר, אור סגל, עוסק במחקר ביואינפורמטיקה .

סגל נולדה וגדלה בחולון, והיא בוגרת תיכון קוגל בעיר. שירתה בצה"ל ביחידה 8200.

היא בוגרת תוכנית הבין-תחומית לתלמידים מצטיינים ע"ש עדי לאוטמן (סיימה ב-2005) ובעלת תואר שני בביואינפורמטיקה מאוניברסיטת תל אביב (2007) התזה שלה, בהנחיית פרופסור דוד הורן ופרופסור איתן רופין, עסקה בשימוש בכלים של למידה חישובית, להסקת הבנות ביולוגיות מרצפי DNA.
בעלת תואר שני נוסף בניתוח החלטות מאוניברסיטת מינרווה ('אנ) בסן פרנסיסקו, בהם התמחתה בבשיטות לניתוח מידע, בינה מלאכותית ומערכות מורכבות (2017).

עבדה במספר חברות הזנק והתמחתה בביואינפורמטיקה ובלמידת מכונה. בשנים 2008–2010 עבדה במעבדות החדשנות של מיקרוסופט כחוקרת.

נכון ל-2020, מתגוררת בתל אביב-יפו.

קריירה בתחום האמנות

ב-2009 החליטה סגל לעשות הסבה לתחום האמנות תוך שילוב אלקטרוניקה, מכניקה ותוכנה ביצירתה.

הציגה, בין היתר, במוזיאון ישראל, מוזיאון הרצליה, מוזיאון פתח תקווה, Bonn ,Bundeskunsthalle, Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Frankfurt, ועוד.

סגל רותמת בעבודותיה טכנולוגיות ומידע כחומרי גלם ומשתמשת בהם לבניית מכונות ומייצבים הקושרים בין העולם הפיזי ועולמות וירטואליים. היא יוצרת ומתבוננת בסיטואציות של חוסר הלימה העולות מחיי היום-יום האישיים בתוך סביבות טכנולוגיות ושואלת שאלות העוסקות באינטימיות מול ניכור, פרטיות מול חשיפת יתר, זהות, זיכרון ומקוריות.

לימדה בבצלאל (בשנים 2008–2010 ו-2020–2018) ובסמינר הקיבוצים (2015-2016) וייעצה לסטודנטים במכון הטכנולוגי חולון (2010–2014).
