ג'ורג' ארליס (באנגלית: George Arliss;‏ 10 באפריל 1868 - 5 בפברואר 1946) היה שחקן קולנוע אנגלי זוכה פרס אוסקר לשחקן הטוב ביותר לשנת 1930 על תפקידו בתור המדינאי הבריטי בנג'מין דיזראלי בסרט "ד'יזראלי".

ביוגרפיה

ארליס נולד בלונדון בשם אוגוסטוס ג'ורג' אנדרוז. הוא למד ב"בית הספר הארו" והחל את דרכו כשחקן במחזות תיאטרון באנגליה. בתחילת המאה ה-20 הופיע בארצות הברית תחת חברת תיאטרון בריטית והחליט להישאר ולנסות את מזלו בתעשיית הסרטים.

ארליס החל את דרכו כשחקן בתעשיית הסרטים השקטים האמריקאים בשנות ה-20 של המאה ה-20. תפקידו הבולט בקריירה היה המדינאי היהודי בריטי הנודע בנג'מין דיזראלי, ארליס גילם את דמותו פעמיים: בסרט שקט משנת 1921 ובשנת 1929 בסרט הקולנוע המדובר "ד'יזראלי". בעבור משחקו זכה ארליס בפרס אוסקר לשחקן הטוב ביותר והיה לשחקן הבריטי הראשון שזוכה בפרס האוסקר. ארליס היה מועמד לפרס באותו הטקס גם על תפקידו בתור הרג'א בסרט ההרפתקאות "האלילה הירוקה".

ארליס הופיע לצידה של הכוכבת בטי דייוויס בתחילת דרכה בסרטים "האיש ששיחק את אלוהים" ו"האיש העובד". הוא גילם דמויות היסטוריות כמו הבנקאי היהודי נתן מאיר רוטשילד בדרמה "בית רוטשילד", המדינאי אלכסנדר המילטון בסרט המבוסס על חייו והקרדינל רישלייה.

בחייו האישים היה ארליס נשוי לשחקנית פלורנס מונטגומרי. הוא נפטר בלונדון בנסיבות טבעיות כשהוא בן 77. על שמו הונצח כוכב קולנוע בשדרת הכוכבים של הוליווד.
