אדוארד קלי (באנגלית: Edward Kelley;‏ 1 באוגוסט 1555 – 1597/8[1]) היה מיסטיקן אנגלי[2] שנודע בעיקר בשל עיסוקו בכישוף, בתקשור, אלכימיה[3], העלאה באוב, ותחומים נוספים הקשורים לתורת הנסתר[4]. שותפו המפורסם ביותר בהתנסויותיו המיסטיות היה ג'ון די[5].

ביוגרפיה

אדוארד קלי נולד ב-1 באוגוסט 1555, בווסטר שבאנגליה[6]. אחותו אליזבת נולדה ב-1558. מלבד אליזבת, היה לקלי גם אח.

התקופה עם ג'ון די

בשנת 1582, קלי נפגש לראשונה עם ג'ון די. קלי פנה לג'ון בטענה שהוא מסוגל לתקשר על מלאכים, דבר שעניין מאוד את ג'ון די שניסה בעצמו לבצע תקשור מסוג זה אך ללא הצלחה. קלי הפגין את כישוריו, וג'ון די התרשם מאוד והאמין שאכן מדובר באדם שיכול לתקשר עם מלאכים. במשך 7 שנים, משנת 1582 ועד 1589 הרבו השניים להיפגש ולבצע סיאנסים וטקסים שונים במטרה לתקשר עם מלאכים, רוחות רפאים וישויות אחרות[7].

בשלב מסוים, קלי נשא לאישה את ג'יין קופר, אלמנה ואם לשני ילדים, בן ובת. קופר הייתה אמה של המשוררת אליזבת ג'יין וסטון (אנ').

ב-1583, ג'ון די יצר קשר עם אלכימאי עשיר מפולין בשם אולבראכט לאסקי (אנ').[8]. לאסקי שכנע את די לעזוב אנגליה. משום כך, אדוארד קלי, ג'ון די, והמשפחות שלהם, אכן עזבו את אנגליה ועברו לפולין.

ב-1586, אדוארד קלי וג'ון די קיבלו את חסותו של הלורד ויליאם מרוזנברג (אנ'), שאף הצטרף אל הניסויים של השניים בתחום האלכימיה. על פי יומנו של ג'ון די, בדצמבר של אותה שנה הצליח קלי לבצע טרנסמוטציה בפעם הראשונה[9].

ב-1587, קלי אמר לג'ון די שהמלאכים עמם הוא תקשר הורו להם לחלוק הכול אחד עם השני, כולל את הנשים שלהם. ב-22 במאי של אותה שנה, הם אכן ערכו מעין אקט מיני משותף. תשעה חודשים לאחר מכן, אשתו של ג'ון די ילדה בן.

ב-1589, דרכם של קלי וג'ון די נפרדו. די חזר לאנגליה, והם לא נפגשו לאחר מכן עד סוף ימי חייהם[10].

מ-1590 ואילך

ב-1590, קלי הצליח לשכנע את רודולף השני, קיסר האימפריה הרומית הקדושה, שביכולתו לייצר זהב. בפברואר של אותה שנה, רודולף העניק לקלי את תואר הכבוד סר. יש הסבורים שקלי קיבל את תואר הכבוד כבר ב-1589.

מאסר

במאי 1591, קלי נעצר ונכלא. אחת הסברות היא שהוא נכלא כדי שלא תהיה לו אפשרות לברוח לפני שהוא יצליח לייצר זהב[11]. ב-1595, קלי הסכים לשתף פעולה עם רודולף, ומשום כך הוא שב והמשיך לנסות לייצר זהב. מאחר שהוא לא הצליח, הוא נכלא שוב[12].

מותו

קלי נפטר בשנת 1595[13]. לפי עדות אחת, קלי נפטר כתוצאה מניסיון בריחה כושל ממתקן הכליאה בו הוא הוחזק[14]. לפי עדות אחרת, הוא התאבד באמצעות נטילת רעל[15].
