פרויקט הייל מרי (באנגלית: Project Hail Mary) הוא רומן מסוגת המדע בדיוני, מאת הסופר האמריקאי אנדי ויר (לעיתים מתורגם כאנדי וייר), שיצא לאור באנגלית בשנת 2021 ויצא בעברית בנובמבר 2021.

עלילה

דוקטור ריילנד גרייס הוא מורה למדעים בחטיבת ביניים בארצות הברית, לאחר שנטש את הקריירה הקודמת שלו כביולוג מולקולרי. הוא מגויס על ידי אווה סטראט, ראש כוח משימה של האו"ם, כדי למצוא את הסיבה לכך שכוחה של השמש נעלם, מה שעלול לשים קץ לאנושות[1]. הסיבה מתבררת כאשר חללית החולפת לצד נוגה מגלה חיידקים חד-תאיים המתרבים ללא שליטה סביב השמש, וסופחים ממנה כמויות עצומות של אנרגיה סולרית, אשר עלולות להשיב את עידן הקרח בתוך 30 שנים. גרייס מכנה את החיידק "אסטרופג" (ביוונית: "אוכל כוכבים"). גרייס מגלה במהרה שהם משתמשים בפחמן דו-חמצני כדי להתרבות, ופולטים כמויות יוצאות דופן של אנרגיית אור כדי לנדוד בין נוגה לשמש. מדענים אחרים חושבים במהירות להשתמש ביצורים כמקור דלק בעל תפוקה גבוהה.
