פליקס האוסדורף (בגרמנית: Felix Hausdorff; ‏ 8 בנובמבר 1868 – 26 בינואר 1942), מתמטיקאי יהודי-גרמני, ממייסדי הטופולוגיה המודרנית.

ביוגרפיה

נולד בברסלאו ללואיס והדוויג האוסדורף, במשפחה בעלת אמצעים. אביו לואיס האוסדורף (1843–1896) עבר עם משפחתו הצעירה בסתיו 1870 ללייפציג וניהל חברות שונות במהלך הזמן במרכז העיר, ביניהן חנות למוצרי פשתן וכותנה. הוא היה אדם משכיל וכבר בגיל 14 זכה בתואר "מורנו". כתב מספר מסכתות, כולל עבודה מקיפה על תרגומי המקרא לארמית מנקודת המבט של ההלכה התלמודית. אמו, הדוויג (1848–1902), המכונה במסמכים שונים גם יוהנה, באה ממשפחת טיץ הענפה. גם הרמן טיץ הגיע מענף של משפחה זו. פליקס גדל ולמד בלייפציג. בילדותו ביקש להיות מלחין, אולם בלחץ אביו נהיה מתמטיקאי. באוניברסיטת לייפציג למד מתמטיקה, אך גם קורסים בפיזיקה, קרימינולוגיה והיסטוריה. הוא הגיש עבודת דוקטורט, בשנת 1891, אותה כתב בהדרכתו של היינריך ברונס בנושא המתמטיקה של ההשפעות האופטיות של האטמוספירה[1]. לאחר שהשלים עבודת פוסט-דוקטורט בשנת 1895 לימד בלייפציג עד 1910. בלייפציג הוא לימד גם קורסים במכניקה, בגאומטריה ובמתמטיקה של הביטוח; הקורס האחרון ניתן לו בשל "הנטייה המיוחדת לגזע שלו"[2].

משנת 1910 לימד כפרופסור מן המניין באוניברסיטת בון. בין 1913-1921 לימד באוניברסיטת גרייפסוואלד ולאחר מכן שב לאוניברסיטת בון. תוך הסתמכות על עבודתם של קודמים הוא ניסח פורמלית את התורה של מרחבים מטריים וטופולוגיים, ובנוסף תרם תרומות לתורת הקבוצות ולאנליזה פונקציונלית.

האוסדורף פרסם מאמרים פילוסופיים, מהאסכולה של ניטשה, תחת שם העט פול מונגרה (Paul Mongré)[3].

האוסדורף נותר בגרמניה גם לאחר עליית הנאצים לשלטון. בזכות מעמדו הורשה להמשיך בעבודתו כפרופסור במשרה מלאה באוניברסיטת בון עד ליציאתו לפנסיה במרץ 1935. כנראה מתוך מחשבה שבשל מעמדו לא יסבול מרדיפות, הוא נשאר בגרמניה גם לאחר שעבודתו כונתה "מתמטיקה יהודית מנוונת". הוא המשיך לעבוד, תוך שהוא מפרסם את עבודתו בכתב עת מתמטי פולני, אך לאחר ליל הבדולח הפך למבודד יותר ויותר. בשנת 1942, משלא היה מסוגל יותר למנוע את שליחתו למחנה ריכוז, התאבד יחד עם אשתו וגיסתו.
