מפרץ פרידז או מפרץ אולף פרידז^[1] (באנגלית: Prydz Bay או בנורווגית: Olaf Prydz Bukt^[1]) הוא מפרץ עמוק בין חוף לארס כריסטנסן לחוף אינגריד כריסטנסן בארץ הנסיכה אליזבת, שבאנטארקטיקה^[2].

המפרץ נמצא בקצה במורד הזרם של מערכות ניקוז קרחוניות ענקיות שמקורן בפנים מזרח אנטארקטיקה.

קרחון למברט זורם מגראבן לאמברט ונשפך אל מדף הקרח אמרי בצד הדרום-מערבי של מפרץ פרידז. קרחונים גדולים אחרים נוספים נשפכים לקצה הדרומי של מדף הקרח אמרי.

היסטוריה

גילוי ומיפוי המפרץ

חלקים מהמפרץ נצפו בינואר ובפברואר 1931 על ידי צידי לווייתנים נורווגים^[2], וכן על ידי משלחת החקר הבריטית, אוסטרלית וניו זילנדית לאנטארקטיקה^[2].

המפרץ נחקר בפברואר 1935 על ידי ציד הלווייתנים הנורווגי קפטן קלריוס מיקלסן (Klarius Mikkelsen) שהפליג בספינה תורסהאבן^[2].

המפרץ מופה בפירוט רב בהתסס על תצלומי אוויר שצולמו על ידי משלחת לארס כריסטנסן בעונת המחקר (הקיץ האנטארקטי) 1936–1937^[2].

מקור השם

המפרץ נקרא על שמו של אולאף פרידז (Olaf Prydz)^[2], שהיה המנהל הכללי של Hvalfangernes Assuranceforening מסאנדפיורד, שבנורווגיה^[2].

תחנות המחקר דייוויס (האוסטרלית), פרוגרס (הרוסית), לו-ראקוביצה (הרומנית), ז'ונגשאן (הסינית) ובהאראטי (ההודית) ממוקמות על גבעות לארסמאן, שלחוף מפרץ פרידז.
