המספנה הצבאית הפיניקית בכתיון

כִּתִּיִם היו עם המזוהה עם בני האי קפריסין והעיר כתיון, בתקופת המקרא. במקרא הם מוזכרים כצאצאי יוון בן יפת. היו שפירשו את השם, המובא בצורת ריבוי, כשם פרטי של דמות מקראית.

מקור שמם של הכתים הוא בעיר הפיניקית (ובהמשך יוונית) כתיון.[1] השם כתים התייחס בתחילה לאנשי האי קפריסין, ובתקופות מאוחרות יותר ליוונים ו/או לרומאים.[1]

אזכורים מקראיים

הכתיים מופיעים באילנות היוחסין שבספרי בראשית ודברי הימים: ”וּבְנֵי יָוָן אֱלִישָׁה וְתַרְשִׁישׁ כִּתִּים וְדֹדָנִים” (בראשית, י', ד'), ”וּבְנֵי יָוָן אֱלִישָׁה וְתַרְשִׁישָׁה כִּתִּים וְרוֹדָנִים” (דברי הימים א', א', ז'). קשריהם של הכתים עם הפיניקים באים לידי ביטוי באזכורם בקינות על צור אצל ישעיהו[2] ויחזקאל.[3][4][5]

הכתים נזכרים גם בדברי בלעם,[6] ירמיהו,[7] ודניאל.[8]

אזכורים היסטוריים

הכתיים זוהו עם העיר העתיקה כתיון על־ידי יוסף בן מתתיהו,[9] והזיהוי מקובל לחלוטין במחקר המודרני.[4][5][10][11][12] השם הפיניקי של העיר, 𐤊𐤕𐤉 (כִּתִּיָּ[10]) נזכר בכתובות פיניקיות רבות.[13]

במכתבי ערד מהמאה השביעית לפנה"ס מוזכרים "כִּתִּיִּם" שאליהם מיועדת חלק מהאספקה שאוחסנה במצודה, ומקובל לראותם כשכירי חרב מכתיון ששירתו בצבא ממלכת יהודה, ויש לכך גם עדויות ארכאולוגיות חומריות.[12]

בספר מקבים א' מצוין שמוצאו של אלכסנדר הגדול היה מ"ארץ כיתים": ”ויהי אחרי הַכּוׂת אלכסנדר בן פילפוס המקדוני אשר יצא מארץ כיתים”.[14]

במגילת מלחמת בני אור בבני חושך ובמגילת פשר חזון השבועות מצויות כשתים-עשר היקרויות לשוניות המתייחסות אל מקום או קבוצה בשם: 'כִּתִּים',[15] שנהוג לזהותם עם הרומאים, או עם ממלכה שהתקיימה כאלף שנים קודם לרומאים - ממלכת אשור.[דרוש מקור][מפני ש...]

תולדות כתים על פי ספר יוסיפון

על פי ספר יוסיפון עם התפזרות העמים, הכתים חנו בקמפניה ובנו את פוסומניה בעוד שצאצאי תובל חנו בטוסקנה ובנו את העיר סבינוס. הגבול הטבעי בין השניים היה נהר טיבר.

הסבינים יצאו למלחמה נגד הכתים בעקבות חטיפת הנשים הסביניות על ידי כתים. המלחמה תמה לאחר שהכתים הציגו לתובלים את ילדיהם המשותפים. הם הקימו את הערים פורטו, אלבאנו לציאלה וארסה. לאחר מכן שטחים נכבשים על ידי אגניאס[דרושה הבהרה], מלך קרתחדשת. כתים מצליחים להשתחרר מעול קרתחדשת וממנים את צפו, בן אליפז (נכדו של עשו) למלך בעל התואר יאנוס סאטורנוס. מלכה הראשון של רומא, רומולוס, הוא בן לשושלת זאת, על פי יוסף בן גוריון.
