הרולד כהן (אנגלית: Harold Cohen; ‏1 במאי 1928 - 27 באפריל 2016) היה אמן יהודי בריטי, שיצר את AARON, תוכנת מחשב שנועדה לייצר אמנות באופן אוטונומי.[1]

עבודתו במפגש בין בינה מלאכותית לאמנות משכה תשומת לב רבה, והובילה לתערוכות במוזיאונים רבים, כולל בגלריה טייט בלונדון, ולרכישות של עבודות רבות.[2]

חיים מוקדמים

כהן נולד בלונדון, בן להורים יהודים פולנים-רוסים, והתחנך שם בבית הספר סלייד לאמנות.[3]

קריירה

כהן ייצג את בריטניה בביאנלה בוונציה ב-1966[4] כהן עבר לארצות הברית כמרצה אורח באוניברסיטת קליפורניה, סן דייגו ב-1968. מאוחר יותר הוא קיבל דרגת פרופסור ושהה באוניברסיטת סן דייגו במשך כמעט שלושה עשורים, חלק מהזמן כיו"ר המחלקה לאמנות חזותית. בנוסף, שימש כמנהל המרכז למחקר במחשוב ואמנויות באוניברסיטה בין השנים 1992 ל-1998.

כהן לימד באוניברסיטת סן דייגו מ-1968 עד 1994.[5] לאחר פרישתו, הוא המשיך לעבוד על AARON ולהפיק יצירות אמנות חדשות בסטודיו שלו באנסיניטס, קליפורניה.

בשנת 2014 קיבל כהן פרס מפעל חיים.[6]

בתחילת 2016, כהן החל בפרויקט חדש עם AARON בשם Fingerpainting for the 21st Century . בפרויקט זה השתמש כהן במסך מגע כדי לצבוע ולסיים יצירות אמנות באופן דיגיטלי. בפרויקטים קודמים של AARON.[7]

אהרון (AARON)

עבודתו של כהן על AARON החלה ב-1968 באוניברסיטת קליפורניה, סן דייגו.[8] הוא כתב בתחילה את AARON בשפת התכנות C אך בסופו של דבר המיר אותה לשפת Lisp, מאחר שלדעתו שפת C הייתה "לא גמישה ספיק, חסרה, וחסרת יכולת להתמודד עם משהו מורכב מבחינה רעיונית כמו צבע".[9]
