הלן דודסון פרינס (באנגלית: Helen Dodson Prince ‏31 בדצמבר 1905 - 4 בפברואר 2002) הייתה אסטרונומית אמריקאית.

שנותיה הראשונות והשכלתה

הלן פרינס נולדה ב -31 בדצמבר 1905 בעיר בולטימור, מרילנד להלן והנרי דודסון. לאחר לימודי הפיזיקה והמתמטיקה, קיבלה הלן מלגה מלאה ללימוד מתמטיקה במכללת גוצ'ר, ובשנת 1927 קיבלה תואר ראשון באומנות. במהלך לימודי התואר הראשון היא הושפעה מהפרופסור פלורנס פ. הלן המשיכה ללמוד באוניברסיטת מישיגן, שם קיבלה את התואר השני ואת הדוקטורט שלה. בשנת 1934, שניהם התארים היו באסטרונומיה.[1]

קריירה והישגים

פרינס שימשה כעוזרת פרופסור לאסטרונומיה במכללת ולסלי בין השנים 1933–1945. לאחר מלחמת העולם השנייה חזרה למכללת הלן למכללת גוצ'ר, שם הייתה לפרופסור לאסטרונומיה בין השנים 1945 עד 1950. פרינס החלה את מחקריה במצפה הכוכבים מקמת'- הולברט בשנת 1947.

דודסון החזיקה במלגת דין ואן מטר ובשנת 1932 קיבלה את פרס אנני ג'אמפ קאנון לאסטרונומיה. לאורך הקריירה שלה פרסמה דודסון מעל 130 מאמרים בכתבי עת, בעיקר על התלקחויות סולאריות.[2] [3] [4] [5] בין תלמידיה היו האסטרונומים נן דיטר-קונקלין והרייט ה. מליסון. [6]
