הום ראן

הום ראן (מאנגלית: Home Run) הוא מושג בתחום הבייסבול שמשמעותו חבטה מוצלחת, בדרך כלל מחוץ לתחומי המגרש, אשר מאפשרת לחובט להשלים הקפה מלאה של הבסיסים ובכך מזכה את קבוצתו בנקודה עבורו ועבור כל אחד משחקניה האחרים שהיו באותה עת על הבסיסים.

סוגים

מקובל להבחין בין שני סוגי הום ראן, מחוץ לפארק ובתוך הפארק:

  • הום ראן מחוץ לפארק היא חבטה חוקית בה הכדור מועף מחוץ לתחומי המגרש (מעבר לגדר), ולפיכך לשחקני השדה אין אפשרות לפסול את החובט שכן הכדור מוגדר כ"מת".
  • הום ראן בתוך הפארק היא חבטה חוקית בה הכדור נותר בתחומי המגרש, שחקני הקבוצה היריבה לא ביצעו שגיאה, אך גם לא הצליחו לפסול את החובט לפני שהקיף את כל הבסיסים והגיע חזרה לבסיס הבית.

קיימת גם חלוקה על פי מצבים בהם נמצא החובט או המשחק:

  • סולו הום ראן היא חבטת הום ראן בזמן שהבסיסים היו ריקים, ולקבוצת החובט נזקפת נקודה בודדת.
  • ווק אוף הום ראן (Walk-off home run) היא חבטת הום ראן שמעניקה ניצחון לקבוצת החובט, חבטה זו צריכה להיות בזמן המחצית השנייה (החלק התחתון) של האינינג, והביאה מספיק נקודות אשר הכריעו את המשחק ממצב של פיגור או שוויון לניצחון.
  • גראנד סלאם היא חבטת הום ראן בזמן שכל הבסיסים היו מאוישים בשחקני הקבוצה של החובט. הגראנד סלאם מעניק לקבוצה ארבע נקודות.

היסטוריה

ההום ראן המתועד הראשון בליגות הבייסבול הבכירות התרחש ב-2 במאי 1876 בנשיונל ליג, החבטה הייתה של רוס ברנס מהשיקגו וייט סטוקינג. הום ראן זה היה בתוך הפארק, כמו מרבית אלו שנרשמו עד שנות ה-20 של המאה ה-20, זאת בין השאר משום שהגדרות היו מרוחקות מאוד מעמדת החובט והכדור היה פחות מתאים לחבטות ארוכות טווח. תקופה זו מכונה בעגת הספורט תקופת הכדור המת ("Dead Ball Era").

החל מ-1920 חלו שינויים משמעותיים בענף ובחוקי הבייסבול בארצות הברית שהביאו לקפיצה במספר ההום ראנס בכל משחק: החומרים שהרכיבו את הכדור שופרו והגבירו את יכולת המעוף שלו, נקבע כי הכדורים יוחלפו בתדירות גבוהה בזמן המשחק מה שמנע אפשרות של הקבוצה המגישה להקשות על החובט על ידי מניפולציות על הכדור. הפופולריות של המשחק גברה, קהל רב יותר זרם למגרשים ועל כן נבנו יציעים חדשים שקירבו את גבולות המגרש לעמדת החובט. התוצאות היו כאמור עלייה במספר חבטות ההום ראנס בשיעור של מאות אחוזים תוך עשור.

אחד השחקנים הבולטים באותה תקופה היה בייב רות' שהחל את הקריירה שלו בתור מגיש, אך הפך לגדול החובטים של הליגה. רות' שבר במשך מספר שנים את שיא ההום ראנס בעונה, והעמיד אותו על 60 לעומת 27 בלבד לפניו.

בשנות ה-90 חלה עלייה חדה נוספת במספר ההום ראנס ב-MLB, אם כי הפעם מקובל לייחס אותה לתופעה של סמים משפרי ביצועים.
