דייב וקל (נולד ב־8 בינואר 1960) הוא מתופף ג'אז אמריקאי ומנהיג להקת דייב וקל. הוא נכנס להיכל התהילה של המגזין Modern Drummer בשנת 2000. [1] וקל נחשב בעיני רבים לאחד המתופפים הטובים והמשפיענים ביותר בעת המודרנית. סגנון נגינתו הייחודי ופורץ הדרך, הציב אותו כמתופף מוערך בעל שם עולמי.

ביוגרפיה

וקל החל לנגן בסט התופים הראשון שלו בגיל 8 בחדר השינה שלו, בליווי תקליטים. בהמשך ניגן בסלון, ולפעמים עם אביו בפסנתר.[2] וקל למד באוניברסיטת ברידג'פורט שבקונטיקט.

בראשית שנות השמונים החל לנגן בסצנת הפיוג'ן של ניו יורק, ועד מהרה החל וקל לעבוד עם אמנים כמו פול סיימון, ג'ורג' בנסון, מישל קמילו, רוברט פלנט ואנתוני ג'קסון .

הוא ניגן בלהקה Chick Corea Elektric Band משנת 1985 עד 1991.[2] במהלך תקופה זו הוא הופיע באלבומים רבים ובנוסף הופיע גם עם הAkoustic Band של קוריאה.[3][4] בנוסף, בשנת 1986, הופיעו חברי הלהקה בארץ, וניגנו בשיר "היא תיקח אותך" באלבום הבכורה של דפנה ארמוני.

בשנת 1988, החל וקל לפרסם סדרת קלטות וידאו ללימוד תופים.

ההקלטה הראשונה שלו כמנהיג להקה הייתה בשנת 1990, באלבום -Master Plan, אשר יצא בהוצאה GRP. אחריה הוציא וקל את האלבמים Heads Up בשנת 1992, ו- Hard Wired בשנת 1994. לאחר שעזב את הלהקה של קוריאה, הקליט וקל והופיעה עם הגיטריסט מייק סטרן.[5]
