אן גיבסון נסמית' (באנגלית: Anne Gibson Nasmyth;‏ 13 בנובמבר 1798 – 28 בינואר 1874) הייתה מורה וציירת ממשפחת נסמית' מאדינבורו. היא לא הייתה הבת המוצגת ביותר אבל נחשבה ל"ציירת הטובה ביותר במשפחה המוכשרת הזו".[1] לאחר מות הוריה הפך ביתה בפוטני למרכז משפחת נסמית' המורחבת.

ביוגרפיה

אן נסמית' נולדה ב-13 בנובמבר 1798 לאלכסנדר נסמית' וברברה באדינבורו. אביה היה מהנדס ואמן מצליח מאוד שלקח על עצמו הזמנות לא רק בציור אלא גם תפאורות תיאטרון באדינבורו ובלונדון.[2] המשפחה הפעילה בית ספר לציור באדינבורו ועם הזמן בית ספר בלונדון. היא הייתה אחת מאחד עשר ילדים שאביהם לימד לצייר. אלכסנדר היה להוט שבנותיו תוכלנה לתרום לעסק המשפחתי ולהיות עצמאיות. שניים מאחיה, פטריק נסמית' וג'יימס נסמית' ציירו אבל ג'יימס היה גם ממציא ומהנדס מפורסם. אן וחמש מאחיותיה הפכו לציירות.[3] בית הספר לציור שלהם באדינבורו נוהל על ידי שש האחיות, כאשר הבכורה, ג'יין, הובילה. בית הספר משך נשים צעירות והן לימדו לצייר והן היו נלקחות למסעות רישום בטבע.

אחותה אליזבת נסמית' הייתה נשואה לשחקן דניאל טרי והוא מת בשנת 1829. באותה שנה החלה אן לעזור בשיעורים בלונדון בבית אחותה, ביתה של אליזבת בפורטלנד פלייס. בשנת 1831 בילתה אן עם אחיה, ג'יימס וג'ורג', כשהם התחילו בקריירה שלהם כמהנדסים במנצ'סטר. כאן היא פגשה מהנדס בשם ויליאם בנט.

אן לא הייתה פרודוקטיבית בהצגת עבודותיה כמו אחיותיה האחרות, אבל היא כן הציגה ציור באקדמיה המלכותית, החברה המלכותית של האמנים הבריטיים, האקדמיה המלכותית היברניאן, האקדמיה המלכותית הסקוטית והמוסד הבריטי.[4]

הציורים שלה היו של האזור הכפרי הסקוטי, כולל תיעוד מזג האוויר הקשה. עבודותיה כללו גם תמונות של פרחים וגנים. היא המשיכה ללמד בביתה של אליזבת עד 1838 כאשר נישאה לוויליאם בנט בכנסיית סנט פנקראס. הם נסעו לאיטליה לירח הדבש והקימו את ביתם בסלפורד.

ויליאם בנט הבטיח השקעה מהונו לאחיה של אן, כאשר הלווה לו כסף להוצאת פטנט על פטיש הקיטור שלו.[5] בשנת 1840 נפטר אביה, ואמה ואחיותיה הרווקות עזבו. בשנת 1851 אן ויליאם עברו לפוטני בלונדון.

ויליאם מת ב-1866 והוא נקבר בבית קברות בפוטני. היא נקברה לצידו ב-28 בינואר 1874.
