Xeración Y

A Xeración Y, tamén coñecida como Xeración do Milenio, milenial ou Milénica, é a cohorte demográfica que segue á Xeración X. Non hai datas precisas respecto de cando a Xeración Y comeza e remata.[1][2][3] Os comentaristas empregan as datas de nacemento desde 1980 até 1999.[4][5][6]

Etimoloxía

O termo Xeración Y empregouse por primeira vez no editorial de agosto de 1993 da revista estadounidense Advertising Age[7], co obxectivo de describir ós adolescentes daquela época. Definíronos como diferentes ós da Xeración X. Dende entón, a mesma revista referiu en máis dunha ocasión o ano de 1979, como data a partir da cal se pode considerar aos nados dentro desta xeración.[8][9]

A Xeración Y fai alusión á xeración sucesora da Xeración X.

Coma ós membros da Xeración X, influídos pola cadea de televisión MTV, aos nados ao principio da Xeración Y tamén se lles coñece como Xeración MTV.[10][11][12]

Xeración Peter Pan

O sociólogo estadounidense Kathleen Shaputis etiquetara ós milenarios como o bumerang xeracional ou xeración Peter Pan, por mor da tendencia a atrasar algúns ritos na idade adulta por períodos máis longos que as xeracións precedentes. Estas etiquetas tamén foron unha referencia a unha tendencia cara ós membros que viven cos seus pais por períodos máis longos que as xeracións anteriores.[13]

O Dr. Larry Nelson sinalou tamén que algúns mozos do milenio están a atrasar a transición desde a infancia até a idade adulta como resposta a erros cometidos polos seus pais. «En xeracións anteriores, casabas, iniciabas a túa carreira e facíalo inmediatamente. O que a xente nova está a ver hoxe é que ese enfoque levou a divorcios e a xente descontenta coas súas carreiras».[14]
