Praxidike (lúa)

Praxidike (ou en grego Πραξιδίκη), tamén coñecida coma Xúpiter XXVII, é unha lúa irregular de movemento retrogrado do planeta Xúpiter. Foi descuberta por un equipo de astrónomos da Universidade de Hawaii liderado por Scott S. Sheppard no ano 2000,[1][2] e recibiu a designación provisional de S/2000 J 7. A lúa recibiría o nome de Praxidike oficialmente en agosto do 2003,[3] Praxidike na mitoloxía grega era a deusa do castigo.

Características

Praxidike orbita Xúpiter a unha distancia duns 20,824 Gm en 613,904 días, cunha inclinación orbital de 144° respecto da eclíptica (143° respecto do ecuador de Xúpiter), de movemento retrogrado e cunha excentricidade orbital de 0,1840.

Praxidike pertence ó grupo de satélites Ananke, pensase que este grupo son os vestixios dun posible asteroide heliocéntrico capturado, que se esnaquizou, formando así este grupo de lúas.[4][5] Ten un diámetro estimado en 7 kms, Praxidike é a segunda lúa máis grande deste grupo de satélites, despois de Ananke (o albedo asumido é 0,04)[6]

Praxidike no espectro visible aparece cun gris (índices de cor B-V=0.77 V-R=0.34) característico dos asteroides tipo C.[7]

A lúa na ciencia ficción

Esta lúa é mencionada na novela de Arthur C. Clarke 2001: A Space Odyssey coma a máis exterior das lúas de Xúpiter cunha órbita inestable e cun eixo semi-maior de 29 millóns de kms (preto dos 20.823.948 kms reais).
