O pazo de Tovar, tamén coñecido como fortaleza de Tovar, é unha edificación que data de comezos do século XIII, unha xoia do gótico isabelino e Ben de Interese Cultural. Localízase en Pacio de Tovar, parroquia de San Tomé de Lourenzá, no concello de Lourenzá.

Descrición

Consta de varios corpos cuadrangulares. O corpo principal rectangular está flanqueado por dúas torres cadradas. As torres teñen pegadas dúas estruturas forman un patio interior xunto cun lenzo da muralla. As torres teñen ameas, troneiras, seteiras e barbacás. A porta principal do pazo é de arco gótico isabelino con dous bustos en baixorrelevo labrados nos salmeres e enriba dous pequenos escudos. Toda a fábrica é de cachotaría de lousa con cadeirado de granito nas partes nobres.

Historia

Torre de Canedo

Os primeiros documentos sobre esta edificación datan de finais do século XIII e refírense a ela como Torre de Canedo. Documentos posteriores indican a súa progresiva deterioración. Os últimos escritos descríbena como unha vella torre en estado deplorable.

Fortaleza de Tovar

Antonio de Tovar, parente de Pardo de Cela e home de confianza do emperador Carlos V, construíu en 1530[1] unha fortaleza sobre a torre cun carácter menos defensivo; remodelándoa ao gusto da época, con maiores xanelas para outorgar máis luz ao interior, ademais doutros elementos decorativos para dar máis importancia ao conxunto.

A fortaleza herdouna Brianda de Tovar e Pimentel, pasando en 1548 a ser propiedade, por herdanza, dos Vázquez de Seixas na persoa de don Fernán, señor de San Paio de Narla, Condes, Castelo das Seixas, e cotos anexos.

A partir desta data, diferentes familias viviron na fortaleza ao longo do tempo; a maior parte como arrendatarios, chegando en momentos a vivir máis dunha familia no inmoble. Todos deixaron as súas pegadas no edificio.

Situación actual

Na actualidade o edificio está nun estado bastante ruinoso, conserva en case perfecto estado todas as súas paredes e muros, pero ten os tellados e pisos seriamente danados. Vai ser restaurado pola Consellería de Cultura e Turismo[2].
