Movemento Olímpico

Co nome de Movemento olímpico desígnase o contorno organizativo que arrodea a celebración dos Xogos Olímpicos e que ten como misión construír un mundo máis xusto e pacífico a través do deporte. O movemento olímpico comprende o Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI), 203 comités olímpicos nacionais, 35 federacións deportivas internacionais olímpicas, así como outras federacións non olímpicas e demais organizacións recoñecidas polo COI, e mais os comités organizadores dos Xogos Olímpicos, tanto de verán como de inverno.

Os principios do Movemento Olímpico defínense nos primeiros artigos da Carta Olímpica, que na súa última versión de setembro de 2004, sinala:

1. O olimpismo é unha filosofía de vida que exalta e combina nun conxunto equilibrado as calidades do corpo, a vontade e o espírito. Vencellando o deporte á cultura e á educación, o olimpismo quere crear un estilo de vida fundado na alegría do esforzo, no valor educativo do bo exemplo e no respecto dos principios éticos universais.

2. O obxectivo do olimpismo é poñer o deporte ao servixo do desenvolvemento harmonioso do home co fin de promover unha sociedade pacífica, preocupada por preservar a dignidade humana.

3. O movemento olímpico é a acción concertada, organizada, universal e permanente, exercida baixo a autoridade suprema do COI, de todos os individuos e entidades inspiradas polos valores do olimpismo. Esta acción esténdese polos cinco continentes e atinxe o seu punto culminante cando a xuntanza dos atletas do mundo no gran festival do deporte que son os Xogos Olímpicos. O seu símbolo está constituído por cinco aneis entrelazados.

4. A práctica do deporte é un dereito dos homes e mulleres. Todos os individuos deben ter a posibilidade de facer deporte sen discriminación de ningunha caste e dentro do espírito olímpico, que esixe a comprensión mutua, o espírito de amizade, de solidariedade e de fair-play. A organización, a administración e a xestión do deporte deben estar controladas por organizacións deportivas independentes.

5. Calquera forma de discriminación contra un país ou unha persoa baseada en criterios de raza, relixión, política, sexo ou outras, é incompatible coa pertenza ao movemento olímpico.

6. A pertenza ao movemento olímpico esixe o respecto da Carta olímpica e o recoñecemento do Comité Olímpico Internacional.
