El Tío

El Tío (Sang Paman), diyakini di Cerro Rico, Potosí, Bolivia sebagai Tuhan dunia bawah. Ada banyak patung arwah mirip-setan di tambang Cerro Rico. El Tío berkuasa atas tambang, menawarkan perlindungan dan kehancuran sekaligus. Beberapa figur benar-benar berbentuk kambing.[1]

Para penambang membawa sesaji seperti rokok, daun kakao, dan minuman keras untuk patung-patung[2][3] dan mempercayai bahwa jika El Tío tidak diberi makan, dia akan membuat onar. Orang-orang desa Potosi melakukan ritual penyembelihan seekor ilama dan mengolesi darahnya di jalan masuk menuju tambang.[1]

Para penambang Cerro Rico beragama Katolik dan mereka mempercayai Yesus maupun El Tío. El Tío mirip dengan beberapa mitologi budaya Folk Katolisisme-vodo, seperti arwah perlindungan, loa, di Legba di Haiti dan beberapa budaya di New Orleans.[1]
