Morgan (cabalo)

Morgan é unha das primeiras razas de cabalo desenvolvidas en Estados Unidos. A raza influíu en moitas outras razas americanas, incluíndo o Quarter horse, Tennessee Walking Horse e Standardbred Horse. Foron utilizados como cabalos da cabalaría durante a Guerra Civil estadounidense en ambos os lados do conflito. Durante os séculos XIX e XX exportouse a moitos países, incluíndo Inglaterra, no que influíu na mellora da Hackney. En 1907 o Departamento de Agricultura dos Estados Unidos estabeleceu a Granxa dos Estados Unidos do cabalo Morgan en Middlebury, Vermont, co fin de perpetuar e mellorar a raza Morgan; a leira foi trasladada máis tarde á Universidade de Vermont. O primeiro rexistro da raza iniciouse en 1909, e desde entón moitas organizacións de Estados Unidos, Europa e Oceanía desenvolvérona. Estímase que hai máis de 175.000 cabalos Morgan en todo o mundo desde 2005.

Características

O Morgan é unha raza compacta, refinada, polo xeral de cor negra ou castiñeiro, a pesar de que poden ter moitas cores, incluíndo diversas variedades de pinto. Utilízanse en moitas disciplinas e son coñecidos pola súa versatilidade. A raza Morgan é a típica dos estados de Vermont e Massachusetts. Populares autores para nenos, incluíndo Marguerite Henry e Ellen Feld, retrataron á raza Morgan nos seus libros, como en Henry Justin Morgan tiña un cabalo, e fíxose máis tarde unha película Disney.
