Lingua protoalgonquina
A lingua protoalgonquina é unha protolingua da cal derivan as linguas algonquinas. En xeral estímase que se falou hai entre 2.500 e 3.000 anos, mais hai menos acordo sobre onde se falou. A familia algonquina, que é unha rama da máis grande familia de linguas álxicas, adoita dividirse en tres subgrupos: algonquinas orientais, que é unha división xenética, algonquinas centrais e das chairas, ambas as dúas agrupacións sprachbund. Na lingüística histórica de América do Norte, o protoalgonquino é unha das protolinguas mellor estudadas e reconstruídas a fondo. Desenvolveuse a partir da lingua protoálxica.
