LARES (acrónimo de Laser Relativity Satellite) é un satélite artificial da Axencia Espacial Italiana lanzado o 13 de febreiro de 2012 mediante un foguete Vega desde o Centro Espacial de Kourou.[2][5][6]

Características

LARES é un satélite pasivo de forma esférica e 400 kg de masa cun diámetro de 376 mm e feito de tungsteno. A súa superficie está cuberta de 92 espellos retrorreflectores para poder facer medicións moi precisas enviando feixes láser desde terra cara ao satélite e facer estudos do campo gravitatorio terrestre e da teoría da relatividade, en concreto o efecto Lense-Thirring.[2][5][6]
