Esquí (deporte)

O esquí é un deporte que consiste en esvarar pola neve empregando dúas táboas suxeitas ás botas, co obxectivo de percorrer un trazado no menor tempo posible. Nas súas diferentes variantes, é un deporte olímpico, que se practica en áreas especialmente preparadas, chamadas estacións de esquí.

A práctica do esquí require dun equipamento especial, composta polas dúas táboas de esquí, as dúas botas de esquí, dous bastóns, e opcionalmente tamén uns lentes, roupa térmica especial e proteccións para cabeza, xeonllos e cóbados.

Esquí alpino.
Esquí nórdico.

O esquí de alta competición divídese en varias disciplinas, que se diferencian unhas das outras segundo sexan probas individuais ou en grupo, pola lonxitude da proba, pola distancia entre os obstáculos que se deben salvar, pola inclinación do terreo, ou mesmo polos saltos.

Esquí nórdico

Competicións

Cada ano dispútanse a Copa do Mundo de Esquí Alpino e a Copa do Mundo de Esquí Nórdico, consistentes ámbalas dúas en ducias de probas que se levan a cabo entre novembro e marzo, completando unha clasificación individual por puntos, dun xeito semellante á Fórmula 1 en coches ou á MotoGP en motos.

Ademais diso, en anos impares dispútanse o Campionato do Mundo de Esquí Alpino e o Campionato do Mundo de Esquí Nórdico, que consisten nunha única proba por disciplina.

Ámbalas copas do mundo e campionatos do mundo, son organizados pola Federación Internacional de Esquí (FIS).

Por último, cada 4 anos lévanse a cabo os Xogos Olímpicos de Inverno, nos que se disputan tódalas probas do esquí.
